KISMAYO, 20 May 2017 – Twenty-five close protection police officers from Jubbaland state have successfully concluded a two-week intensive close protection course, held at the Police Training Unit in Kismaayo.
A pass out parade for the officers was held in Kismayo, the administrative capital of Jubbaland, before Jubbaland Police Commander, Ahmed Nasir Guleed and senior AMISOM officials.
“The training was short; but you have done a commendable job. I expect you to do more in the future,” Mr. Ahmed Nasir Guleed told the graduands, while appealing to AMISOM to increase further the training support to Jubbaland Police.
Mr. Christopher Momu, AMISOM Police Deputy Training Coordinator said the officers had been equipped with skills to avert attacks and assassinations carried out by insurgents against top government officials.
“These police officers are now expected to be able to provide security to their principals or members of parliament; and other Very Important Persons in the state,” Mr. Momu noted.
Khadija Mohamed, a graduand, said she had gained invaluable knowledge and skills, which she would make her work effective.
“I am grateful for the training I have taken. We learnt how to provide protection to Very Important Persons,” Khadija stated.
Feisal Abdullahi, another graduand, concurred with Khadija, “I can do a lot with the two weeks training I have undertaken. I am very happy with the training. Based on what I have learnt, I believe that I can protect myself and the lives of others,” Feisal said.
